Kent Model Clubs

With around 50 members Canterbury and District Model Engineering Society was formed in 1972 to provide for the interests of local model engineers.

We are actively searching for new members to our club in Kent - everyone is welcome.

Formed in 1962, Erith Model Railway Society has been in existence for almost 50 years and has well over 40 active members. As the club continues to grow new members are always welcome.

The club meets on Wednesday evenings from around 7.00pm until around 9.30pm at our clubrooms in Norvic House, Larner Road, Erith. Unlike many other clubs, we are in the fortunate position of not having to share our facilities with anybody else. Some of the members meet on a Tuesday to work on the various club layouts that are currently under construction (or being updated).

EMRS has active groups working on various projects including 2 American HO layouts (Riversdale & Murphy’s Mount), building a new OO layout (The Wharf), completing the building of a new O gauge layout (Herringsham) as well as rewiring and scenically improving our recently acquired N gauge layout (Norvic Junction). We also have set up a 4 track OO layout and a 2 track N layout (both oval circuits) to allow members and their guests to bring their own stock for testing and general running.
Current membership charges are £50 per annum for adults (aged 16 and over unless still in full time education) and £10 for juniors (aged 14 and over). Note: Children are not considered for membership until they attain the age of 14, but can attend meetings as guests under supervision of a Senior Member and/or Parent/Guardian. Fees can be paid annually or six monthly. But, before taking the plunge and signing-up, we suggest that anybody interested in joining EMRS visits the clubrooms on a couple of Wednesdays just to get to know the members and the feel of the place.
As well as building layouts and ‘playing’ with trains, we also organise social events: including railway based visits and rail tours, winter and summer celebrations, normally at a local family restaurant or pub plus other occasional events. Members’ families are more than welcome to attend any of the club organised events.

EMRS currently organises 4 model railway exhibitions each year, they are:-
Erith: featuring up to 30 layouts and over 80 stands in total. Located at the Business Academy Bexley and held on the last full weekend of January.
Firepower: featuring up to 20 layouts and 50 stands in total. Located at The Royal Artillery Museum, Woolwich Arsenal and held on the first weekend of June.
Bexleyheath: featuring up to 15 layouts. Located at St Martin’s Church & Scout Halls and held on the third complete weekend of September.
Wilmington: the club assists in the management and organisation of the St Michael & All Angels Church charity exhibition held in mid October.

The club also encourages and supports it members in taking club and their own layouts to other exhibitions around the South East (and sometimes further afield). During each year we try to support as many exhibitions as possible plus local school/church fetes and other similar events.

We are a model engineering society with a dual gauge track both 31/2 and 5 inch we also boast a large model boat pond and car track. est 1979 and located at Bartons Point coastal park Sheerness Kent.
