Somerset Model Clubs

We are a small and informal group of friends who meet weekly and are currently re-furbishing a large roundy-roundy layout.

We do not do politics or have meetings - we are friends who just happen to have a common interest. We also organise 2 fund-raising events a year. We intend to remain a small club. although sometimes we do have one or two vacancies for new members. Membership is by invitation, after a mutually agreeable trial period, although guests are always welcome.

The club meets weekly in Shepton Mallet and owns a number of layouts, mainly 00, which it exhibits at local exhibitions. It is currently constructing a model based on Binegar, SDJR. It also organises the Mendip Model Railway Exhibition each June in the heart of the S&DJR and GWR.

We are a friendly club who meet every Wednesday at 7:30pm in Carhampton near Minehead. We have our own exclusive premises giving excellent opportunity to expand layout building with projects under way or planned. We also organise one of the largest exhibitions in the Country, Rail-Ex Taunton Show (at Taunton School) with a blend of professionalism & friendliness every Autumn.

We welcome both young & old to join our club or just pop in for chat & a cup of tea.

We celebrate out 60th birthday in 2006 and currently have 132 members, whose interests vary between clocks and restoration of vehicles to locomotives and traction engines.
