Model Railway Club in Derbyshire at Mickleover.
In 1965 a local church asked if anyone had a model railway layout to exhibit at the annual church fete.
Several church members owned layouts resulting on the organisation of a small railway exhibition.
This was a one day show with just 5 small train layouts and a film show. Over 1000 attended with £45 raised for church funds.
The Mickleover Model Railway Group meet on Monday nights for model building. They also meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7pm.
Their clubroom runs train layouts in OO, N and O gauge.
A new layout called Weston Hills is a 2mm O gauge featuring a rural station, along with a shunting area for loading cattle.
The Club has organised the Derby Model Railway Exhibition since 1982 and is proud to have seen the event grow to become one of the premier model railway shows in the UK.
